Yong Kang Tan
September 2026

Meet Yong Kang Tan, a science educator at Science Centre Singapore who has been part of the ABE Singapore team since November 2022. His journey with ABE has been one of continuous growth and discovery—from teaching students directly and witnessing their curiosity come alive to facilitating professional development institutes for teachers and supporting them as they bring ABE lessons into their classrooms. A meaningful milestone in his ABE journey came at the 2025 All-Staff Meeting in Burlington, Massachusetts, where he connected with ABE colleagues from across 18 countries and was introduced to the gene mapping activity, which he has since woven into ABE Singapore's Exploring Precision Medicine programming. Beyond the curriculum, Yong Kang brings a personal touch to every session by closing his lessons with candid conversations about life in the molecular biology industry, drawing on his own experiences and those of peers to inspire the next generation. For him, the most rewarding part of this journey is seeing students discover that science is not confined to textbooks, but is a living, evolving exploration of the unknown. That spark of genuine curiosity in young learners is what makes his work with ABE so deeply fulfilling.
