James K. Otero, a Puerto Rican native, has been a dedicated contributor to the ABE program in Puerto Rico since its inception on the island 16 years ago. With a solid academic background, including a BS in Biology from the University of Puerto Rico and an MS in Neuroscience from Michigan State University, James has combined his expertise in neuroscience and bioinformatics to enhance the educational experience for K–12 students. As a Master Teacher Fellow, he has played a key role in integrating biotechnology science with effective teaching strategies, developing locally adapted materials, and ensuring that ABE labs are engaging and accessible to students across Puerto Rico. We thank him for his instrumental contributions in shaping the program’s success in the region.
