This month we want to recognize someone in our ABE community who exemplifies the words commitment and dedication. Lauren Shipp, co-site director for ABE San Diego, has worked tirelessly to help connect the thriving life sciences industry in Southern California to high school students in the region. A published researcher and college instructor, Lauren has never lost sight of the importance of effective workforce development in preparing students to succeed after high school—and to not just survive but thrive. Her focus on internships, work-based learning experiences, and industry partnerships helped Lauren plan and host a successful symposium for teachers to bridge the gap between the life sciences and the high school classroom. Lauren is passionate about equity and access in STEM and is an active participant and thought partner in ABE’s Equity, Access, and Engagement working group. We appreciate the time, commitment, and care Lauren brings to everything she does with and for ABE. Thank you for being part of this community and making ABE better every day, Lauren!
