The Program Office would like to highlight the achievements of ABE San Francisco Bay Area Site Director Maia Binding, who has been with the ABE program since 2011.

Maia is an enthusiastic, supportive site director who is known for helping teachers—speaking with them on the phone and via video chat during class to help them troubleshoot technical issues. Even though she has many responsibilities, she makes herself available to support teachers whenever they need it, and this contributes to her site’s sense of community. She remains calm under pressure and helps teachers and staff through each and every challenge.

The Program Office appreciates that Maia thinks beyond her own site, often sharing her awesome ideas and useful feedback, which help improve the entire program. Maia has been an active member of the ABE Professional Learning Working Group and consistently provides specific and thoughtful recommendations on lab experiences like ABE’s Exploring Precision Medicine. Maia has also been active in recommending local teachers for the ABE Master Teacher Fellowship and providing other leadership opportunities for the ABE San Francisco teacher community. With Maia’s help, we’re able to better support teachers in engaging in ABE.
